India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.40%

India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Oil&Gas and Banking sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.40%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.40%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which rose 5.35% or 1042.95 points to trade at 20530.00 at the close. Meanwhile, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 4.57% or 58.20 points to end at 1331.00 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was up 3.90% or 8.85 points to 235.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 2.86% or 5.25 points to trade at 178.50 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 2.01% or 9.00 points to end at 438.55 and Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) was down 1.61% or 20.55 points to 1259.30.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 4.85% to 1334.55, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 3.55% to settle at 322.00 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 3.06% to close at 4666.00.

The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.73% to 770.95 in late trade, Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which lost 1.66% to settle at 1258.70 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.41% to 213.50 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 858 to 667 and 97 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1330 rose and 1043 declined, while 160 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) rose to all time highs; up 3.06% or 138.45 to 4666.00.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.77% to 13.7800 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.36% or 5.65 to $1568.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.08% or 0.55 to hit $51.30 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.42% or 0.23 to trade at $55.51 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.01% to 71.185, while EUR/INR rose 0.07% to 78.3320.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 98.140.
