U.K. stocks lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.27%

U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals&Mining, General Industrial and Oil Equipment Services&Distribution sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the United Kingdom 100 fell 0.27%.

The best performers of the session on the United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.41% or 18.00 points to trade at 764.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) added 2.41% or 26.20 points to end at 1113.80 and Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) was up 2.12% or 130.00 points to 6270.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA), which fell 4.51% or 24.00 points to trade at 508.60 at the close. DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) declined 3.48% or 11.90 points to end at 329.70 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was down 3.31% or 31.60 points to 923.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1284 to 829 and 200 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.75% or 26.75 to $1556.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.63% or 1.45 to hit $53.65 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.33% or 0.78 to trade at $57.88 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.26% to 1.2097, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.9069.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 98.907.
