Markets gained ground on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump said via Twitter that the U.S. is getting "very close" to a "big deal" with China.

"Getting VERY close to a BIG DEAL with China. They want it, and so do we!" the president tweeted.

Gold futures at $1,482.60 an ounce vs. $1,488.90 prior

Crude oil WTI futures at $59.60 a barrel, vs. $58.92 prior to comments

S&P 500 index hits new all time highs of 3160.98, before easing back to 3,158.45

NASDAQ 100 index hits a high of 8701.08, just off the all-time high of 8705.91, before pulling back slightly to 8699.94.
