GrubHub Gains as Amazon Closes Its Delivery Service

Jun 11, 2019

GrubHub was higher in midday trade Tuesday after reports that Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is shutting down its Amazon Restaurants delivery service later in the month.

The Amazon Restaurants program is ending its U.S. service as of June 24, according to GeekWire. Its Daily Dish program, a workplace lunch delivery service, will shut down on June 14.

This comes a month after Amazon led a $575 million funding round for U.K.-based food delivery company Deliveroo.

GrubHub (NYSE:GRUB) rose 6.5% in midday trade, while Uber (NYSE:UBER), which operates UberEats, gained 0.9%.

Those two companies, along with DoorDash, control about 75% of the U.S. delivery market, according to Fortune.
