Germany stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, Industrials and Construction sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 5.47% to hit a new 5-year low, while the MDAX index fell 5.51%, and the TecDAX index lost 4.08%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG), which rose 7.08% or 6.080 points to trade at 91.920 at the close. Meanwhile, Henkel&Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p) added 1.69% or 1.10 points to end at 66.04 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) was up 0.63% or 0.055 points to 8.790 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which fell 15.93% or 2.017 points to trade at 10.643 at the close. MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn) declined 15.59% or 19.95 points to end at 108.05 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) was down 12.44% or 12.33 points to 86.75.
The top performers on the MDAX were K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which rose 13.44% to 6.330, Qiagen NV (DE:QIA) which was up 3.54% to settle at 35.400 and TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which gained 2.90% to close at 25.53.
The worst performers were Airbus Group SE (DE:AIRG) which was down 21.56% to 49.40 in late trade, Alstria Office Reit-Ag (DE:AOXG) which lost 17.42% to settle at 10.570 and GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which was down 17.14% to 14.500 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Qiagen NV (DE:QIA) which rose 3.54% to 35.400, TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which was up 2.90% to settle at 25.53 and Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which gained 1.69% to close at 33.760.
The worst performers were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) which was down 15.93% to 10.643 in late trade, Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which lost 15.84% to settle at 18.895 and Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 10.88% to 6.350 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 550 to 169 and 20 ended unchanged.

Shares in GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) fell to 5-year lows; losing 17.14% or 3.000 to 14.500. Shares in Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) fell to 3-years lows; down 15.93% or 2.017 to 10.643. Shares in Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) fell to 52-week lows; losing 15.84% or 3.555 to 18.895. Shares in Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) fell to 5-year lows; losing 10.88% or 0.775 to 6.350.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.75% to 82.22.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 2.62% or 39.90 to $1485.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 23.60% or 6.45 to hit $20.88 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 13.40% or 3.85 to trade at $24.88 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 1.47% to 1.0834, while EUR/GBP rose 2.69% to 0.9367.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 2.04% at 101.838.
