Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 0.18%

Germany stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Food&Beverages, Retail and Consumer&Cyclical sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.18%, while the MDAX index declined 0.15%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.34%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG), which rose 5.02% or 0.505 points to trade at 10.560 at the close. Meanwhile, Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) added 1.77% or 0.144 points to end at 8.278 and BAYER AG NA (DE:BAYGN) was up 0.98% or 0.63 points to 65.17 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN), which fell 2.31% or 5.46 points to trade at 230.45 at the close. Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) declined 2.08% or 2.15 points to end at 101.43 and SAP SE (DE:SAPG) was down 1.87% or 2.190 points to 114.940.

The top performers on the MDAX were Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) which rose 7.75% to 6.948, Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which was up 3.35% to settle at 7.25 and Kion Group AG (DE:KGX) which gained 2.98% to close at 51.84.

The worst performers were TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which was down 2.34% to 42.53 in late trade, Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO Pref (DE:FPEG_p) which lost 2.22% to settle at 35.670 and Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which was down 1.94% to 61.80 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which rose 1.59% to 9.462, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was up 1.56% to settle at 105.725 and Jenoptik AG (DE:JENGn) which gained 1.37% to close at 20.720.

The worst performers were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 2.96% to 9.175 in late trade, TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which lost 2.34% to settle at 42.53 and SAP SE (DE:SAPG) which was down 1.87% to 114.940 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 356 to 312 and 73 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 9.42% to 42.39 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.09% or 1.60 to $1738.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.30% or 0.11 to hit $36.45 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.12% or 0.43 to trade at $38.98 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.55% to 1.1235, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.8992.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 97.285.
