Canada stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.08%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Industrials and Consumer Staples sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.08%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN), which rose 12.13% or 0.62 points to trade at 5.73 at the close. Meanwhile, Aphria Inc (TO:APH) added 7.68% or 0.930 points to end at 13.040 and Boyd Group Income Fund (TO:BYD_u) was up 4.80% or 5.02 points to 109.61 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF), which fell 4.57% or 0.17 points to trade at 3.55 at the close. Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) declined 3.73% or 0.14 points to end at 3.61 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TO:SSL) was down 3.65% or 0.220 points to 5.800.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 573 to 551 and 123 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.70% to 12.86.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 2.01% or 26.50 to $1291.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.21% or 0.15 to hit $71.11 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.05 to trade at $78.18 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.46% to 0.7772, while CAD/EUR rose 0.29% to 0.6563.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.61% at 93.11.
