Travel tech stocks were active in midday trading thanks to above-guidance numbers from Booking Holdings.
Booking (NASDAQ:BKNG) stock rose about 4% at 11:30 AM ET (16:30 GMT).
The company changed its name from Priceline.com -- one of the stalwarts of the early dot-com companies known for its name-your-price tool and commercials by William Shatner -- to reflect its broader portfolio.
Along with Priceline.com, the company also operates Booking.com, airline flight site KAYAK and restaurant reservation site OpenTable.
At first blush, earnings after the bell Monday looked like a big disappointment. Booking reported a profit $37.78 a share, which was far from the consensus estimate of $38.18.
But earnings were above the company’s own guidance and revenue of $4.85 billion topped the Street forecast. The company also guided quarterly profit above current expectations.
Other online travel stocks were mixed following the results.
TripAdvisor (NASDAQ:TRIP) climbed about 4%. But Expedia (NASDAQ:EXPE) was down about 1%.
