Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.51%

Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Resources and Metals&Mining sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.51%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Sandfire Resources NL (AX:SFR), which rose 3.48% or 0.310 points to trade at 9.230 at the close. Meanwhile, Wisetech Global Ltd (AX:WTC) added 3.28% or 0.500 points to end at 15.750 and Fisher&Paykel Healthcare Ltd (AX:FPH) was up 3.35% or 0.430 points to 13.260 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Retail Food Group Ltd (AX:RFG), which fell 5.92% or 0.045 points to trade at 0.715 at the close. Domino'S Pizza Enterprises Ltd (AX:DMP) declined 4.50% or 2.400 points to end at 50.980 and Galaxy Resources Ltd (AX:GXY) was down 3.10% or 0.110 points to 3.440.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 651 to 585 and 408 ended unchanged.

Shares in Sandfire Resources NL (AX:SFR) rose to all time highs; rising 3.48% or 0.310 to 9.230. Shares in Retail Food Group Ltd (AX:RFG) fell to all time lows; losing 5.92% or 0.045 to 0.715. Shares in Fisher&Paykel Healthcare Ltd (AX:FPH) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.35% or 0.430 to 13.260.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 6.10% to 11.277.

Gold Futures for August delivery was unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to $1302.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.43% or 0.28 to hit $65.80 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.50 to trade at $75.88 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.62% to 0.7663, while AUD/JPY rose 0.77% to 84.25.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 93.79.
